Authorities Processing

Consistency in cataloging helps your patrons find what they are looking for. If you never had time to bring all the obsolete name and subject headings in your database up to current practice, let MARCIVE's easy and economical authorities processing do it for you. Typically, libraries also receive authorities records for loading into the library's local system; these records are used for cross references and maintenance.

MARCIVE also offers several ways to keep your database up-to-date.

Notification Service. Monthly service to notify you of new authorities records you need or changes to authorities records you have already received. Ideal for libraries which have had us perform an initial database authorities project, have received a GPO retro or regular retro from us, or receive records through a MARCIVE Enhanced GPO Database subscription.
Overnight Authorities. A service for libraries which get their cataloging from other sources, such as OCLC. Simply FTP your file of cataloging to us every day (or on a schedule that works for you), and we'll clean it up and FTP it back overnight. $0.11 per record, no minimum.
Demand! Authorities. A service for MARCIVE cataloging customers only. Along with your MARC bibliographic records, you receive a file of authorities records you can use to create cross references in your local catalog. We suppress duplicates (unless changes have occurred) to reduce your workload.

A small number of libraries require bids for authorities processing. If you have the responsibility and would like to see a list of common specifications, our literature page also contains a sample Request For Proposal (RFP).

For more information, send an e-mail to info@marcive.com or call us and tell us a little about your project.
